Wonderson’s Man Of The Match Performance Inspires FC ONE Rocket To First Away Win Of The Season

FC ONE Rocket recorded a first win away from home in the Nigeria National League this season with a thrilling 2-3 victory over Henserd FC at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa on Saturday.

Youngster, Wonderson Yakubu ran the show – providing the assist for Clinton Jephta to open the floodgates in the 11th minute – before scoring the winner in the 72nd minute to seal a memorable outing for the Indomitables.

FC ONE Rocket started the game like a house on fire, mounted pressure on their opponents and had attempts in the 4th and 9th minutes through James Sunday, whose header went wide, and Clinton Jephta, who fired wide from close range.

Jephta made amends two minutes later to grab the opener, thanks to Wonderson Yakubu’s delicious cross.

Paul Ogunkoya and Clinton Jephta would miss the chance to add to the tally for FC ONE Rocket, while Wonderson Yakubu’s header was denied by the upright, which gave the hosts a lifeline as Abule Alabo equalised in the 34th minute to bring the scores level at 1-1 heading into the break.

Ndubisi Ndah’s men returned for the second half in full swing and got rewarded in the 49th minute through Harrison Ebah’s thumping header off Clinton Jephta’s corner delivery to make it 1-2.

The hosts equalised again through Abule Alabo in the 64th minute, before Wonderson Yakubu’s spectacular hit, thanks to Efe Kegbe’s assist in the 72nd minute, sealed a 2-3 win.

FC ONE Rocket, who welcome Go-Round to Eket on Saturday in their quest to clinch the only playoff spot in their group, now have 11 points from six games, three behind Southern Conference Group B1 table toppers, Rovers FC, who beat Vandrezzer FC 1-0 in Calabar.

7. Ahmad Ghali (Slovan Liberec, Czech Republic)

The Nigeria midfielder scored twice to earn Slovan Liberec win over Mlada Blosav.

8. Samuel Akere (Botev Plovdiv, Bulgaria)

Red-hot Akere fired in a brace to help Botev Plovdiv subdue Pirin.

9. Kingsley Eduwo (Club Africain, Tunisia)

Gangling forward, Eduwo Kingsley fired in a goal this time in the CAF Confederation cup against Dreams FC.

10. John Okoli (Asswehly SC, Libya)

Okoli John scored twice in his side Asswehly disappointing loss at home.

The Stephen Keshi Stadium To Host NNL Super Eight Play-offs

The Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta state have been confirmed as the venue for the Nigeria National League Super 8 play-offs.

Slated to kick start in the last week of June and to end on the first July, 2023, 8 teams who made it from their different groups will slug it out for the four slots in the Nigeria top-flight league.

The Eight teams from different zones who would be in action for the NNL super-8 play-offs include, Sporting Lagos, Heartland, FC One Rocket, Abeokuta Stormers, Kano Pillars, Katsina United, EFCC FC and DMD

Amongst the clubs listed above, only (4) clubs would be handed promotion to play in the Nigeria elite league.

Recall the 22,000 capacity stadia hosted the Nigeria Women League play-offs earlier this month which saw the emergence of Delta Queens as the Champions.
