As the break for the world cup beckons many Nigerians starred and performed for their various sides in Europe last weekend.
So how did various super eagles stars perform? Let’s jump right into it.
1. DAVID OKEREKE
The 25 year old scored a brilliant goal as his Italian side Cremonese wrestled to a 2-2 draw against Salernitana in Serie A action on Saturday. The Nigerian latched onto a pass on the far edge of the penalty area and fired first time into the bottom corner.
However, his side couldn’t get maximum points as Lassina Coulibaly and Michele Castagnetti ensured the game remained at a stalemate.
2.TEREM MOFFI
The 23 year old Cross Riverian was on target in a very difficult game against the French Champions in Ligue 1. The deadlock was broken by Brazilian Neymar jnr, but the Nigerian levelled, with his 9th goal of the campaign. Moffi was later denied a potential winner by the cross bar, as Pereira would go on to score the winning goal for the side from Paris in the 81st minute.
3. VICTOR OSIMHEN
The Super eagles talisman once again showing his goal scoring capabilities once again in his sides 2-1 win at Atalanta in Serie A.
This was after the 23 year old conceded a penalty in which his fellow compatriot, Lookman would go on to convert in the 19th minute.
Osimhen also set up Eljif Elmas for the winning goal to provide a response after their midweek defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
This was Napoli’s 9th consecutive win in the Italian league as they sit pretty at the league summit.
4. CALVIN BASSEY
The Nigerian fullback played the entirety of the game as Ajax were condemned to only their second loss of the season to PSV 2-1, who sit on top of the dutch league.
The 22 year old started off in the center of defense, as the Ajax backline struggled to stop PSV from scoring, as the young Nigerian has come under fire with certain criticism, most recently from former Ajax midfielder Vink.
The loss puts Ajax two points behind league leaders, PSV Eindhoven on 30 points.
5. PAUL ONUACHU
The Nigerian has proved unstoppable for Belgium side Genk this season, as he scored four goals en route to a 4-1 defeat to Sporting Charleroi.
He is now the leading goal scorer with 12 from 13 matches this season in the Belgian pro league.
6. ADEMOLA LOOKMAN
The Winger has continued with his rich vein of form in Serie A this season, with his 6th goal of the season with Atalanta.
He converted a penalty early on in the game, but was not enough to snatch the three points from a rampaging Osimhen’s Napoli.
7. JOE ARIBO
The Super Eagles No.10 was placed on the bench ahead of the outing against a red hot Newcastle side, as his team succumbed to a 4-1 throbbing.
Even when introduced in the 64th minute, the versatile attacker could do little to salvage the situation of his club.
Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has since been sacked as Luton Town Head Coach Nathan Jones is the leading candidate to get the job in the dug out. Aribo will be looking to get more consistency at ST. Mary’s, having only scored twice in 14 Premier league games under the Austrian. Southampton presently occupies 18th position on the table with three wins, three draws and eight losses from 14 league games.
All in all, not a bad time at the office for Nigerians abroad.
