UEFA Europa Review: General Performance Of 14 Nigerian Stars

After completing the qualifying series, the prestigious UEL and UCL came underway yesterday with over (31) games in the offing across the two competitions.

In all (31) games played across the UEL and UCL, Nigerian stars weren’t left out as they turned up with their various clubside marking a ecent performance in the fixture.

Below is a report how Nigerian players performed alongside their clubside.

Igoh Ogbu (Slavia Prague, Czech Republic)
Igoh started off his campaign in the Europa League on a high as he contributed a goal and ensured a clean sheet as Slavia Prague escaped Geneva with all maximum points at stake.

Muhamed Tijani (Slavia Prague, Czech Republic)
The lanky forward was a second half substitute as he came in to create chances and space for his team to play.

Boluwatife Ogungbayi (Slavia Prague, Czech Republic)
The Nigerian youngster was an unused substitute as he gave morale support from the bench to help his side win.

Victor Boniface (Bayern Leverkusen, Germany)
As expected Boniface fired a goal and recorded an assist in Bayern Leverkusen 4-0 home win over Swedish side, BK Hacken.

David Ankeye (Sheriff Tiraspol, Moldova)
The Sheriff Tiraspol Nigerian import marked a remarkable debut in the UEL as he led the team attack against Italian giants, AS Roma.

Ademola Peter (Sheriff Tiraspol, Moldova)
Ademola who played all 90mins ran the show in the middle of the park and was outstanding regardless the team loss.

Ademola Lookman (Atalanta, Italy)
Lookman was on parade for Atalanta as his side claimed a 2-0 win over Polish side Rakow.

Cyriel Dessers (Rangers, Scotland)
Dessers who came from the bench fired blank as Rangers recorded a slim win over Spainish side, Real Betis.

Victor Olatunji (Sparta Prague, Czech Republic)
The gangling forward recorded an assist to help Sparta Prague in beating Greek side Aris 3-2.

Sunday Adetunji ( Cukaricki, Serbia)
The Nigerian star who fired winning goal for Cukaricki at the weekend was outstanding regardless firing blank in Cukaricki disappointing loss away from home.

Tolu Arokodare (Genk, Belgium)
The towering forward was a second half substitute in KRC Genk disappointing share of spoils at home against Fiorentina.

Troost Ekong (POAK, Greece)
Troost Ekong lasted for all minutes in POAK dramatic win over Finnish side HJk.

Jordan Torunarigha (Gent, Belgium)
The Nigerian defender lasted for all 90mins as Gent stole a point against Zorya .

Rafiu Durosinmi (Plezen, Czech Republic)
The in-form played out some minuets, was outstanding regardless not scoring.

Glory Ogbonna: Nigeria Defender Extends Beşiktaş Women’s Football Contract

Nigeria Super Falcons defender , Glory Ogbonna, will continue her professional career with the Turkish side, Beşiktaş Women’s Football

Nigeria international Ogbonna Glory has signed a contract extension that will keep her at Beşiktaş Women’s Football for another one year 2024/2025 season.

On 3 February 2023, she was transferred to Beşiktaş JKand currently plays for Beşiktaş JK.

Glory is a versatile player. Although her main position is a left-back player, but she can also play as a right-back, a left-centre back, a right-centre back and a defensive midfielder. Glory can use both feet successfully.

There, she has been a key figure in the stars studded Beşiktaş Women’s Football side helping them stay afloat in the Turkish Women Super League with a good run of form.

Ambrose Peter Pens Emotional Message To Újpest Ahead Aberdeen Move

Nigerian forward, Peter Ambrose, has penned an emotional farewell message to Hungarian Football Club, Újpest Football Club, fans following his move to the Scottish Premier League with top giants, Aberdeen Football Club.

“I want to thank Újpest Football Club my teammates, the coaches and most especially the fans for making this year a happy and a memorable one for me, you will always have a room in my heart “ emotional Ambrose concluded.

Ambrose made his professional debut for Turkish side Balikesirspor in January 2022 and featured a further 11 times in his maiden season before a move to Ujpset that summer.

He was the Hungarian club’s top scorer last season with 10 goals in 27 starts and, according to Aberdeen, attracted interest from “several UK clubs” before opting for the Dons.

Done Deal: Getafe Unveils Nigerian Midfielder Uche Chrisantus

LaLiga club Getafe have announced the signing of Nigerian midfielder Uche Chrisantus.

According to Nigeria journalist, Nwosu ‘Chygoz’ Chigozie,

reports that Chrisantus joined Getafe from Spanish second tier club, AD Ceuta.

The 21-year-old penned a four-year contract with the Azulones.

“Getafe CF and AD Ceuta FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Chrisantus Uche. The 21-year-old Nigerian footballer has signed with the club until June 30, 2028 and will spend the next four seasons in the blue and white jersey,” the club announced on their official website.

He will join Getafe’s first team for preseason training, where he will compete for a spot in the squad.

Ikechukwu Uche and Oghenekaro Etebo are the two other Nigerians, who have played for Getafe in the past.
