UEFA Champions League 16 Fixtures Review



It was a memorable two days of UEFA Champions League fixtures with many surprising results emanating from the 16 Fixtures which produced a total of 55goals scored in all.

Below is a review of all 16 Fixtures played in the UEFA organised club competition played at the Weeknd.

1. Malmo FF v Chelsea (0-1)

The UEFA champions league defending champions, Chelsea, slim win on Tuesday night in Sweden against Swedish champions, Malmo FF, brightened it’s chances of progressing to the next round and automatically dumped off the Swedish outfit from the competition as they have no point out of its four fixtures in Group H.

2. Wolfsburg v RB Salzburg (2-1)

Wolfsburg new gaffer, Kohfeldt.F began his journey with the German side after taking over from the gaffer who was relieved his duties recently.

With the slim win against, RB Salzburg, on Tuesday night, the German Bundesliga outfit, Wolfsburg, has a leg in the next round regardless been tied on same points with French based outfit, Lyon in Group G

3. Atalanta v Manchester United (2-2)

Manchester United Legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, came through for his side scoring a brace to keep his side in business as they avoided been beaten in Italy against Italian Seria A outfit, Atalanta.

With the decent result on the road, Manchester United stands a chance of qualifying from the Group F alongside Spanish based outfit, Villareal.

4. Bayern Munich v Benfica (5-2)

The German Bundesliga outfit, Bayern Munich, took all 3points in a seven goals thriller win at home against Portuguese side, Benfica.

With the convening home win, Bayern ranks amongst the already qualified team alongside Barcelona from Group E.

5. Juventus v Zenith St Petersburg (4-2)

The ‘Old Lady’ of Turin pulled a dramatic win on Tuesday night against Russian giant’s, Zenith St Petersburg in a six goals thriller.

With the big win, Juventus are already through to the next round from Group H alongside defending champions, Chelsea.

6. Sevilla v Lyon (1-2)

Sevilla had it’s hopes of progressing to the next round dashed as they succumbed to a defeat against Lyon at home on Tuesday night.

With the lose, Sevilla will be denoted to play in the Europa league for failing to make it out of Group G.

7. Villareal v Young Boys (2-0)

Unai Emery and his Yellow submarine army brightened it’s chances of qualifications to the next round with the big win on Tuesday night against Swiss based outfit, Young Boys.

8. Dynamo Kiev v Barcelona (0-1)

Ansu Fati 70min goal was enough to see Barcelona through for the next round after a decent result in Kiev on Tuesday night.

9. AC Milan v Porto (1-1)

Italian Seria A outfit, AC Milan, failure to beat Portuguese based outfit, Porto, automatically dumps them out of the competition as they have garnered just a single point from group B.

10. Real Madrid v Shakhtar Donetsk (2-1)

Carlo Ancelotti and his boy cruise to another home win as they recorded a slim win against Ukrainian giant’s, Shakhtar Donetsk, at the Santiago Bernabeu.

With the win ‘La Blancos’ are through to the next round alongside Inter Milan on group D.

11. Borussia Dortmund v Ajax (1-3)

Dortmund woes continued in the Champions league after a heart wrenching home defeat against, Ajax on Wednesday night.

Regardless the woeful results, Dortmund looks likely through the next round alongside Dutch side, Ajax regardless tied on same points with, Sporting Lisbon.

12. Liverpool v Athletico Madrid (2-0)

Liverpool completed a double over Spanish side, Athletico Madrid, at the Anfield earlier today.

Liverpool win sees them through to the next round occupying the top spot in Group B.

13. Manchester City v Club Brugge (4-1)

Manchester City Pummled it’s Belgian opponents to brighten it’s qualification chances.

With PSG disappointing result on Wednesday night, Manchester tops the table with 9points, looking safe and through to the next round.

14. RB Leipzig v PSG (2-2)

PSG woeful campaign in the Champions league continued as RB Leipzig came from behind to end the game in a stalemate.

15. Sheriff Tiraspol v Inter Milan (1-3)

Italian Seria A outfit, Inter Milan, bagged a big win against hard fighting, Sheriff Tiraspol on Wednesday night.

With the home defeat, the Moldovian side denotes down to the Europa league.

16. Sporting Lisbon v Besiktas (4-0)

Regardless Portuguese giant’s, Lisbon, win against it’s Turkish based opponents, the Lisbon side will campaign in the Europa league henceforth as they have Borussia Dortmund infront regardless tied on same points.

Though the official reasoning behind the decision was not confirmed, it is likely to have been connected to Delibas’ alleged profile on dating app Bumble.

On his page, a photo of Delibas wearing Besiktas’ training kit and holding a drink was accompanied by his name and age, though the number falsely claimed he is 24.

His description told matchers that he was a footballer for the club, provided his Instagram handle and revealed that he was looking for ‘something casual’.

In a twist, however, the player has looked to distance himself from the profile.

In a statement on Instagram, he said: ‘I reject the slanders made by fake accounts and would like to state that my loyalty to my team cannot be questioned.

‘Besiktas is a responsibility for me. Your love has been my greatest motivation.’

2023 FIFA Women World Cup: Super Falcons Squad Numbers Unveiled



With the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup opening games scheduled for this Thursday, the shirt numbers of Nigeria’s Super Falcons were revealed earlier today with most players retaining their traditional Jersey numbers

In the goalkeeping area, first choice goalkeeper, retained her Jersey Number 16 whilst Balogun and Oluehi opted for Jersey Number 23 and 1 respectively.

Barcelona Feminine’ upfront, Asisat Oshala retained her number 8 with the number 9 shirt handed to Desire Oparanozie and Athletico Madrid Feminine Rashedaat Ajibade taking her trade mark Jersey Number 15.

At the backline, old war horse Onome Ebi and her center back pair,Plumptre retained their Jersey number 2 and 5. In the middle of the park, Ucheibe and Monday gift went for Jersey number 10 and 11.

In the Forward line; Ordega and Kanu will put on jersey number 12 and 17 respectively. Highly rated Payne and Echegini will wear 7 and 19.

The Super Eagles will start their campaign at the 2023 Women World Cup against Canada on July 21st.

Nigeria will then face Australia on July, 27th before the final group game versus Republic of Ireland on July 31st.
