Scouting Report:What Makes Ekerette Udom The Best Defender In Nigeria Top-flight League

Unheralded Nigerian Defender,Ekerette Anthony Udom, ranks as the new rave in the Nigeria topflight league.

Currently in the books of Akure based side, Sunshine Stars, 19-year-old tallish Ekerette Anthony Udom has established himself in the heart of backline for the Edith Agoye tutored side.

With his lion heart and resilience, Ekerette is the one player who would fit any kind of defence with no drop off in output or quality.

After a stint with Vandrezzer FC, the youngster enjoyed a short stint with Nasarawa United then to Sunshine Stars From then, Ekerette has grown into arguably the most important player in the Sunshine Stars squad.

In this tactical analysis, we examine the strengths that make Ekerette Anthony Udom such a dominant player.

Ekerette Anthony Udom ability in a 1v1 situation as well as his pace makes the lanky defender stand out and playing against him unbearable for strikers.

His strength and speed make it very difficult for the opposition strikers to create separation. He also reads the game incredibly well. Ekerette uses his pace extremely well to defend in space when operating as the last man.

The highly rated defender controls his entire half of the pitch with his ability to move quickly and cover space all on his own.

With a good technical passing ability, Ekerette Anthony Udom is a very impressive distributor of the ball. He is right-footed and can distribute to all areas of the pitch with accuracy. He is also constantly looking for opportunities to pass vertically and help his team to progress into the opposition half.

Ekerette Anthony has the quality to drop the pass into the space behind the defensive line that prevents the goalkeeper from being able to come and claim the ball. What a player!

Ekerette Anthony Udom 6ft height is a huge advantage and an asset to any team. Defensively, his gigantic presence in set pieces makes it hard for his team to be scored through headers as he always put his height into good use.

Offensively, Ekerette presence in opponent’s box is a huge threat as we have seen him score handful of goals for his side with set-pieces.

If a team wanted to defend in a low block and play long and direct football then Ekerette Anthony Udom would be the perfect defensive fit.

If they wanted to defend high with a possession style then Ekerette Udom would be the perfect defensive fit.

There is nothing that he cannot do in the defensive phase. Indeed, you could play him at full-back or as the ‘6’ in midfield and he would be just as impressive.

The worst thing for opposition attackers is that Ekerette Anthony is very much in his youthful period and he should continue to impress for years to come.
