Peseiro Must Rescue Nigeria Poor Runs And Make A Decision On Dennis Emmanuel

Published

on

The Super Eagles loss against World Cup participants, Portugal continued a wretched run of form for the West African team.
We all would have expected a loss in all honesty, but a 4-0 throbbing was far from expected. The game shown light on the gulf in class between the two sides and definitely the limitations in the tactics employed by the Portuguese manager.
The first half saw Nigeria boast some control, but that was later vanquished after failing to create any clear cut chance as the Europeans pinned them back.

Two Bruno Fernandes goals in the first 45, was nothing less than what they deserved, ahead of their world cup opener against Ghana. It is safe to say the outcome of the match could have produced a better score line if Samuel Chukwueze had converted after good work on the right hand flank, and if Emmanuel Dennis had dispatched his penalty with ten minutes to go of the game.

It was quite clear that the Nottingham Forest striker flouted instructions, as he wasn’t the clear penalty taker, after clearing efforts from William Troost Ekong and Paul Onuachu’s attempts to take the ball off him, with an angered demeanour of the gaffer on the touch line.
Obviously, such an act of selfish individualism can be let slide if converted, anything less and you’re in risk.

This is definitely the egocentrism that kept him out of former manager Gernot Rohr’s squad, and the present manager must take initiative to curb this intolerable attribute of him, or leave him entirely out of the playing squad going forward. This later led to Portugal scoring twice in two minutes to quickly put the game to bed without any sort of doubt.

Wins have been difficult to come by for the super eagles following the 3 straight wins in the Afcon group stage, with their loss to Tunisia in the round of 16 starting a dismal run of form of two wins in their last nine features, with five of them being depressing losses. Friendlies will definitely not determine his tenure, but major games and tournaments, but more convincing performances are the least the fans can demand from a side with so much of talent and with a vast majority of the squad playing in some of Europe top leagues.

The bigger picture though, is that the country has performed well in the Afcon qualifying games, apart from a shaky start against Sierra Leone. They have claimed a 2-1 win over Liberia, and a record setting 10-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe.

How Peseiro handles this Dennis situation, and reverses the Nation’s poor fortunes in games could really make or mar his time in the dugout.
What do you think about this Dennis attitude? And do you think Jose Peseiro is the right man for the job? I wait for you in the comments below.
