Oripelaye Taiwo as stated that the recently concluded Nigerian Football League Season is one of his major highlights since he ventured into professional football.
Bendel Insurance who only got promoted from the Nigeria National League last season went on a season unbeaten and secured qualification for the Super 6 play-offs alongside Enyimba FC of Aba, Rivers United, Remo Stars, Lobi Stars and Sunshine Stars FC of Akure.
Enyimba FC went on to win the Super 6 play-off at the conclusion of the championship which was held at the Mobolaji Bank Anthony Stadium, Onikan, Lagos.
Whilst Enyimba won the NPFL and secured one of the slots to represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions league next season, Bendel Insurance went on to defeat Enugu Rangers in a keenly contested tie courtesy of an Imade Osarenkhoe first half goal from the penalty spot ending a 43 years spell for the Benin Arsenal and a member of the Federations Cup winning side, Oripelaye Taiwo has stated that it was a glorious season for him and his colleagues who fought tooth and nail to ensure they clinched the Federations cup title and also securing the CAF confederations cup slot and will represent Nigeria alongside Remo Stars in that competition next season.
In his words, the wing forward said “The 2022/2023 Nigeria Football League Season has been one of the best for me. At the start of the season, the management, technical crew and playing staffs resolved that we want to contend and not just participate in both the league and the Federation cup which is why we gave our very best in every game we played which was the reason we never lost a single match throughout the regular season until the play-offs and although we couldn’t win the play-offs, we gave a very impressive showing and made up for that by winning the Federation’s cup. With no iota of doubt, this is one of my best football league season if not the best and I will always relish the experience and the memory to have been part of the Bendel Insurance side that ended a 43 years spell and winning the FA Cup (now knowns as the Federation cup) for the people of Edo State” concluded Taiwo
