Nigeria v Cape Verde: Five (5) Cape Verdean Players To Watch Out For



The Nigerian Super Eagles will be put to a litmus test on Tuesday as the Gernot Rohr tutored side engages the ‘Blue Sharks’ of Cape Verde in one of the CAF Qatar 2022 world cup qualifiers series.

After garnering a total of 12 points after Matchday 5 fixture against the ‘Lone Stars’ of Liberia in Morroco.

The Nigeria Super Eagles will have their fate of qualification in their hands on Tuesday when they trade tackles with Cape Verde as a point(s) will see the team through to the next round.

As the Eagles gears up for tomorrow’s tie, a fixture many tagged a ‘Walk Over Match’ here are Five (5) Cape Verdean Players who can wreck havoc to spoil the Eagles Party if not closed down or marked out.

1. Ryan Isaac Mendes da Graça (Al-Nasr, Saudi Arabia)

Born on 8th January 1990, Ryan Mendes is a Cape Verdean international who currently plys his trade with Saudi Arabian top-flight league giants, Al Nasr.

With a total of 12 international goals to his name, Ryan Mendes ranks as one player the Cape Verdean side will be relying on to bring in delightful deliveries from the channels as the Al Nasr Winger is blessed with plenty of speed.

2. Júlio Tavares (Al Faisaly FC)

Born 19 November 1988, the Cape Verdean striker who plies his trade with Saudi Arabian Professional league outfit, Al Faisaly FC, ranks amongst the player to be on the look out for when the Super Eagles trade tackles with the ‘Blue Sharks’ tomorrow.

The bulky striker scored one of his side goal in their (2-1) win against, Central Africa Republic on Saturday.

With 6 international goals for the Cape Verdean National team, in 2013 Tarvas played in all matches at 2013 Africa Cup of Nations where his team advanced to the quarterfinals.

3. Ianique dos Santos Tavares (Fehérvár FC)

Born on 28 May 1988, Ianique dos Santos Tavares is a Cape Verde International left back who plys his trade with Hungarian top-flight league giant’s, Fehérvár FC.

With 2 international goals to his name, the left back is often relied on by the ‘Blue Sharks’ for counter attacks from the channels as his blessed with an explosive pace which aids him in running the channels expertly.

The left back bagged his 2nd goal for the Cape Verdean national team in their dramatic win against Central Africa Republic on Saturday.

4. Dylan Tavares dos Santos (Xmax)

The 25years Swiss based defender will be out to help his side grind out a point(s) in Lagos when the trade tackles with the Nigeria Super Eagles.

The defender scored his side only goal in the first fixture against the Super Eagles at home.

5. Jaílton Alves Miranda (U.D. Leiria)

Popularly known as ‘Kuca’ the Striker earned his first cap for Cape Verde on 28 March 2009, in a 5–0 friendly win over Equatorial Guinea.

Kuca scored his first goal on 15 November 2014, contributing to a 3–1 home win over Niger for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Striker ranks as one player the team play revolves around him and will be relied on by the visitors to cause an upset on Tuesday in Nigeria when they go toe-toe with the Super Eagles.

AFCON23: Nigerians Owes José Peseiro Apologies



Failure as they said has no friends whilst success comes with lots of friends and family members inclusive.

Success never comes overnight as it requires time, consistency, believing in your craft will surely draw the much needed success closer than expected.

The Nigeria Super Eagles yesterday stepped into the semi-finals of the on-going African Cup Of Nations In Abidjan, Ivory Coast following its 1-0 win over Angola, all thanks to Lookman Ademola first half goal which was enough to separate the two sides at full time.

Prior to the African Cup Of Nations, the Nigeria Super Eagles were written off by its own country people following the team strings of poor run with its Portuguese gaffer, Jose Peseiro, described as an ‘incompetent’ Coach by many Nigeria Football enthusiasts.

José Peseiro suffered all manner of insults and cyber bullying by Nigerians as well as in the hands of the Nigeria Football Federation as he was forced to take a pay but he was undeterred knowing his worth and ability.

Nigeria Super Eagles Coach, Jose Peserio, suffered all manner of negative criticism from Nigeria Football enthusiasts, Journalists and Pundits starting from its Provisional list for the AFCON down to his list of 25 players for the competition.

The Portuguese gaffer amidst all negative criticism remained focused and never allowed side talks from naysayers distract him as he knows his Onion and was ready to prove it.

“We said it, the Nigeria Super Eagles team is too big for Jose Peserio to handle, the team cannot qualify for group stages ” these were words of many Nigerians, pundits and analysts after the team 1-1 draw in its first game in Group A against Equatorial Guinea.

The team squared up against host Nation, Ivory Coast and cruised to a 1-0 win and went ahead to record a 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau to secure a place in the round of 16 but still, the Coach Jose Peserio tutored side was under fire as they described the team qualification as a fluke.

In all group stages, the Nigeria Super Eagles team conceded only once and still stretched its clean-sheet with their 2-0 win over Cameroon in the round of 16 down to its 1-0 win over Angola in the quarter-finals.

Against all odds, against all criticism by Naysayers, Coach Jose Peserio has silenced all criticism against him with success stories following the Nigeria Super Eagles qualifications for the semi-finals of the AFCON.

At this point, Nigerian football enthusiasts, Journalists, Analysts and Pundits needs to unanimously come together and tender an apology to the Nigeria Super Eagles gaffer as his big feats in the AFCON has brought smiles in the faces of millions of Nigerians who called for his sack prior to the competition.

As early stated, Success takes time and requires consistent as Jose Peserio has turned around the fortunes of the Nigeria Super Eagles team in the AFCON with its high level of consistency in formations and personnel’s.

With the team setting it’s eyes on the trophy, Portuguese gaffer, Jose Peserio deserves an apology letter from all Nigerians who doubted his ability.
