Liberia Vs Nigeria: Players Rating



The Nigeria Super Eagles were faced with an uphill task in their search for a place in the African World Cup qualifiers Play-offs as they faced Liberia National team in Morocco.

Prior to the game in Tangiers, The Super Eagles in the first fixture had claimed a win against the ‘Lone Stars’of Liberia in Nigeria, a win which helped the Super Eagles claim a placed on top of the summit in Group C.

First half goal from Victor Osimhen from the spot and a second goal by Substitute, Ahmed Musa, from the spot was all the Eagles needed to brighten it’s chances of Play-offs qualification.

After an outstanding performances by the Eagles, we will take a look at the rating of the players owing to their general play.

1. Maduka Okoye (8/10)
The Watford new boy showed why he’s ranked amongst in-demand goalkeepers in Europe with an outstanding performances.

On three occasion the Sparta Rotherdam goalie was called to action, he never disappointed as he helped keep the Eagles lead.

2. Chidozie Awaziem (8/10)
The Turkish based utility player who played as one of the centre backs in Gernot Rohr 3-5-2 set up lived up to expectations as he covered up for the team on several occasions with timely tackles.

3. Leon Balogun (6/10)
The Rangers man performed below par, his mistake nearly caused an upset for the Super Eagles team, all thanks to Okoye who came through with big saves.

4. Williams Troost-Ekong (6/10)
Just like Leon Balogun, Troost-Ekong equally played below average as he looked shaky and nearly gave out a goal against his team.

5. Wilfred Ndidi (7/10)
The Leicester City Midfielder who only made a return from injury before the international break played a big role in the team defend of it’s early goal.

Ndidi showed why he was missed greatly the last term as his tackles and forward plays were top notch and he equally provided a balance in the team defense and attack.

6. Joe Aribo (7/10)
The Rangers man didn’t do much as he lasted for all 90mins. The attacking midfielder failed to record a shot at goal.

7. Alex Iwobi (6/10)
Alex was seen running around the field althrough his stay on the pitch but never contributed meaningful to the Eagles’ advantage.

8. Jamilu Collins (5/10)
Jamilu was aweful, the Paderborn defender never contributed anything in attack of the Super Eagles regardless scoring a goal which was flagged for an offside.

9. Moses Simon (6/10)
The Nantes man was ineffective maybe because of the Strange position he played in the 3-5-2 formation.

Moses was alive to his defensive duties but failed to be useful offensively.

10. Kelechi Iheanacho (7/10)
The Leicester City man was a shadow of himself regardless winning a penalty kick.

Iheanacho who was suppose to be the middle between the midfield and attack failed to properly supply Osimhen, reason why the Napoli hustled for the ball himself.

11. Victor Osimhen (9/10)
The Napoli talisman showed his quality yet again as he had his name on the score sheet and committed the Liberians and delivered a spot kick which was scored by Ahmed Musa in the second half.

AFCON23: Nigerians Owes José Peseiro Apologies



Failure as they said has no friends whilst success comes with lots of friends and family members inclusive.

Success never comes overnight as it requires time, consistency, believing in your craft will surely draw the much needed success closer than expected.

The Nigeria Super Eagles yesterday stepped into the semi-finals of the on-going African Cup Of Nations In Abidjan, Ivory Coast following its 1-0 win over Angola, all thanks to Lookman Ademola first half goal which was enough to separate the two sides at full time.

Prior to the African Cup Of Nations, the Nigeria Super Eagles were written off by its own country people following the team strings of poor run with its Portuguese gaffer, Jose Peseiro, described as an ‘incompetent’ Coach by many Nigeria Football enthusiasts.

José Peseiro suffered all manner of insults and cyber bullying by Nigerians as well as in the hands of the Nigeria Football Federation as he was forced to take a pay but he was undeterred knowing his worth and ability.

Nigeria Super Eagles Coach, Jose Peserio, suffered all manner of negative criticism from Nigeria Football enthusiasts, Journalists and Pundits starting from its Provisional list for the AFCON down to his list of 25 players for the competition.

The Portuguese gaffer amidst all negative criticism remained focused and never allowed side talks from naysayers distract him as he knows his Onion and was ready to prove it.

“We said it, the Nigeria Super Eagles team is too big for Jose Peserio to handle, the team cannot qualify for group stages ” these were words of many Nigerians, pundits and analysts after the team 1-1 draw in its first game in Group A against Equatorial Guinea.

The team squared up against host Nation, Ivory Coast and cruised to a 1-0 win and went ahead to record a 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau to secure a place in the round of 16 but still, the Coach Jose Peserio tutored side was under fire as they described the team qualification as a fluke.

In all group stages, the Nigeria Super Eagles team conceded only once and still stretched its clean-sheet with their 2-0 win over Cameroon in the round of 16 down to its 1-0 win over Angola in the quarter-finals.

Against all odds, against all criticism by Naysayers, Coach Jose Peserio has silenced all criticism against him with success stories following the Nigeria Super Eagles qualifications for the semi-finals of the AFCON.

At this point, Nigerian football enthusiasts, Journalists, Analysts and Pundits needs to unanimously come together and tender an apology to the Nigeria Super Eagles gaffer as his big feats in the AFCON has brought smiles in the faces of millions of Nigerians who called for his sack prior to the competition.

As early stated, Success takes time and requires consistent as Jose Peserio has turned around the fortunes of the Nigeria Super Eagles team in the AFCON with its high level of consistency in formations and personnel’s.

With the team setting it’s eyes on the trophy, Portuguese gaffer, Jose Peserio deserves an apology letter from all Nigerians who doubted his ability.
