Crowned Academy kicked off its campaign in the Lagos State FA cup with a resounding victory, defeating its opponent, FUT PRO by 5 goals to 1 at the Maracana Stadium on Tuesday, 21st of February.

The match had been earlier slated for Sunday, 19th February but was rescheduled and moved two days forward due to the economic situation of the country.

Inspite of the changes in fixture adjustment, Crowned Academy were unperturbed and got up to a winning start in the Lagos State FA cup, putting up a 5 star performance to secure a vital win against FUT PRO FC.

Team captain, Chizezi Orianwo put Crowned Academy in the lead as early as the tenth minutes of the game with a fine header and few minutes later, Chizezi will assist Oguntimehin Ezekiel for the second goal which was a long range shot effort from Ezekiel with the opposition keeper having no chance to stop the shot.

Chizezi got his brace from the penalty spot in the 39th minute after Philip Olusoji had been fouled after an impressive footwork.

Crowned Academy went into the break with a 3 goals lead and continued from where they stopped in the first half securing its fourth goal, 8 minutes into the second half coming from the boots of Moses Emmanuel with a spectacular long range shot.

FUT PRO got her chance to reduce the deficit in the 64th minute from the spot but failed to convert the spot kick with Crowned Academy goalkeeper, Ibrahim Yusuf rising up to the task to parry the ball into safety before Covenant Odey booted the ball out completely.

FUT PRO finally got their consolation in the 70th minute after which they came all out and dominated proceedings for a couple of minutes but Crowned Academy resisted all the attack thrown at it by FUT PRO and restored their four goals lead courtesy of Babatunde Ismail David 9 minutes from time.

Coach of Crowned Academy, Ayodele Akalo after the game stated that he was impressed with the team showing and the team’s fighting spirit for the entire duration of the game which he hopes to build on in subsequent games.

Also reacting to the team’s impressive showing is club proprietor, Osamede Okungbowa who says he is really impressed with the work the coach has put in the team to make the team very solid.

Kelvin Ejeh | It Is Fraustrating, We Didn’t Make Enough Of Our Chances In The Final Third



Abia Warriors FC assistant gaffer, Kelvin Ejeh, was left frustrated his Abia Warriors side had not made more of their opportunities in it’s rescheduled Matchday 9 fixture against Rivers United played earlier today at the Umuahia township stadium.

The Warriors were forced to a share of spoils against the Pride of Rivers’ with the game ending on a 0-0 score line at full time.

The exciting fixture lived up to its billing with the two sides showcasing the best of football artistry to the spectators delight regardless ending the half all level .

On return for the second half, the Warriors were handed a golden opportunity to break the deadlock, no thanks to Striker Bello Lukman who failed to beat Rivers United goalkeeper from the spot.

Eje’s side pressed for a winner afterwards but all efforts were all furtile till the blast of the whistle to end proceedings at the Umuahia township stadium.

In a presser with Abia Warriros media, the highly experienced tactician who stood in the dugout for one match banned Head Coach, Erasmus Onu, expressed his disappointment following the unfavorable result.

“I’m frustrated and disappointed,” said the Warriors assistant Coach, Kelvin Ejeh.

“We were so dominant in the game, so on top, but it’s probably the same problem we’ve probably had a lot really where we don’t show enough in the final third for what we have.

“We created the most chance in the game but our striker’s failed to come to the party, hence the unfavorable outcome”

“It probably sums up where we are as a squad really – we just need a bit more in that final third. We just didn’t have enough to show for our dominance and that’s the most frustrating thing”

“We were in their box so many more times than they were in ours, we were in the final third so many more times, and there was a big difference between the two teams.

“They have set up well, they have come for a counter-attack but our back line were able to match them toe to toe”

“We have to work so hard to score our goals and break teams down, dominate the ball, move the ball and score goals.

“I’m proud of the players, they gave everything. The performance wasn’t a bad one at all.

“We managed the squad, a few people were really nursing knocks, niggles whilst some were out owing to suspension and I thought those guys did great, so in terms of that it was good” soft speaking Coach Kelvin Ejeh concluded.
