Champions League Preview: Everything At Stake In Every Group



Actions will be underway in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday and Wednesday as clubs jostle for qualification spots in their groups.

With Sixteen(16) matches in the offing at the midweek, here’s every thing at Stake in every match and Group.

1A. Manchester City v PSG (Group A)

Arguably the toughest group, English Premier League defending champions, Manchester City, will play host to French Champions, Paris Saint German, in one of the matches in group A.

Sitting on top of the Summit with 9 points, Manchester City needs just a point(s) in the match against, Paris Saint German, for the Pep Guardiola side to advance into the next round.

French top-flight League outfit, Paris Saint German, who will be up against, Manchester City, will need two draw and hope Belgian side, Club Brugge, wins all their remaining fixtures.

1B. Club Brugge v Leipzig (Group A)

Occupying the third (3rd) position on the log, Belgian outfit, Club Brugge, who will welcome German Side, Leipzig, has their chances of qualifying out of Group A if only they can record Maximum points in each of its last two (2) games.

On the other hand, German Bundesliga outfit, Leipzig, who will trade tackles with Club Brugge are as good out of the competition but will have to win it’s next opponents to stay in contention in the Europa league.

2A. Liverpool v FC Porto (Group B)

English premier league outfit, Liverpool, who has 12points in four games(4) in Group A automatically has qualified for the next round regardless the outcome of its subsequent games

Portuguese side, FC Porto, who be up against Liverpool at Anfield will need to beat, Liverpool, hoping Athletico Madrid would lose to Italian Seria A side, AC Milan, for them to be through to the next round.

2B. Athletico Madrid v AC Milan (Group B)

Spanish outfit, Athletico Madrid, would need just a point(s) against AC Milan for the team to be through to next round as they occupy the third (3rd) position with four (4) points.

Italian Seria A side, AC Milan, would be faced with the uphill task of winning it’s next two Fixture to remain in contention.

3A. Ajax v Broussia Dortmund (Group C)

Dutch outfit, Ajax, needs just a point(s) to advance to the next round as they occupy the first(1st) position with twelve(12) points.

3B.Sporting Lisbon v Besiktas (Group C)

In another Group C match, Portuguese giant’s, Sporting Lisbon, would only advance to the next round hoping Ajax to win Dortmund by two-plus(+2) goals whilst Besiktas is out of the competition and will be out of the Europa league if they fail to beat Ajax.

4A. Real Madrid v Inter Milan (Group D)

Spanish side can only advance to the Champions league next round by beating Moldovan side, Sheriff Tiraspol, or recording a draw in it’s two (2) subsequent games whilst Italian Seria A side, Inter Milan, would only advance if they garner four (4) points in it’s next two games.

4B. Sheriff Tiraspol v FC Shakhtar Donetsk (Group D)

Moldovan Side, Sheriff Tiraspol, would be out of contention if they lose to Real Madrid and Inter beat, FC Shakhtar Donetsk, whilst, FC Shakhtar Donetsk, needs to win it’s next two games to be able to playa in the Europa league.

In a statement, the club said: ‘We have parted ways with professional football player Emirhan Delibas by mutual agreement. We wish him success in his future career.’

Though the official reasoning behind the decision was not confirmed, it is likely to have been connected to Delibas’ alleged profile on dating app Bumble.

On his page, a photo of Delibas wearing Besiktas’ training kit and holding a drink was accompanied by his name and age, though the number falsely claimed he is 24.

His description told matchers that he was a footballer for the club, provided his Instagram handle and revealed that he was looking for ‘something casual’.

In a twist, however, the player has looked to distance himself from the profile.

In a statement on Instagram, he said: ‘I reject the slanders made by fake accounts and would like to state that my loyalty to my team cannot be questioned.

‘Besiktas is a responsibility for me. Your love has been my greatest motivation.’

2023 FIFA Women World Cup: Super Falcons Squad Numbers Unveiled



With the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup opening games scheduled for this Thursday, the shirt numbers of Nigeria’s Super Falcons were revealed earlier today with most players retaining their traditional Jersey numbers

In the goalkeeping area, first choice goalkeeper, retained her Jersey Number 16 whilst Balogun and Oluehi opted for Jersey Number 23 and 1 respectively.

Barcelona Feminine’ upfront, Asisat Oshala retained her number 8 with the number 9 shirt handed to Desire Oparanozie and Athletico Madrid Feminine Rashedaat Ajibade taking her trade mark Jersey Number 15.

At the backline, old war horse Onome Ebi and her center back pair,Plumptre retained their Jersey number 2 and 5. In the middle of the park, Ucheibe and Monday gift went for Jersey number 10 and 11.

In the Forward line; Ordega and Kanu will put on jersey number 12 and 17 respectively. Highly rated Payne and Echegini will wear 7 and 19.

The Super Eagles will start their campaign at the 2023 Women World Cup against Canada on July 21st.

Nigeria will then face Australia on July, 27th before the final group game versus Republic of Ireland on July 31st.
