AFCON 2023: Player Ratings From Super Eagles’ 0-1 Win Against Guinea-Bissau

The Nigeria Super Eagles earlier today secured his second win in the African Cup of Nations 2023 following its 1-0 slim win over Guinea-Bissau.

After it’s heroics against host Nation, Ivory Coast, the Nigeria Super Eagles squared up against Guinea-Bissau hoping to claim a back to back victory in Group A.

A decent performance of the team had them edge Guinea-Bissau on a lone goal and here is a rating of the Super Eagles starting XI against Guinea-Bissau.

1. Stanley Nwabili (8/10)

Nwabili came through with another top performance as his composure and command in between the sticks helped shaped the team midfield and backline as the team earned a win with a clean sheet.

2. Kenneth Omeruo (9/10)

The Kasimpasa defender who took the place of injured Troost-Ekong was a worthy leader as he captained the team.

Omeruo left no stone unturned as he expertly marshaled the backline expertly to record a clean-sheet.

3. Semiu Ajayi (6/10)

Jittery Ajayi came through with a performance below par of what he has been doing in last two games.

Lost possession on so many occasions, wrong tackles and movement which eventually had him booked by the Referee.

4. Samuel Ajayi (8/10)

Ajayi remained impressive playin from the side in a 3-4-3 formation. Ajayi kept the team left hand side busy for the opponents backline and maintained a solid form performance defensively, registered an assist but unfortunately had the game cancelled by VAR:

5. Ola Aina (8/10)

As usual, Aina came to the party smoking hot. Aina kept it solid defensively and was a menace to the opponents backline offensively with his trademark long-rage throwing ability.

6. Frank Onyeka (7/10)

Unlike in the game against CIV, Frank failed to replicate performance against CIV which had the Guinea-Bissau team dominate the midfield on numerous occasions in the game.

7. Joe Aribo (6/10)

Looked match rusty, Aribo contributed little or nothing in the midfield replacing Iwobi in the starting XI.

Too soft and slow, Aribo failed to deliver offensively and defensively.

8. Samuel Chukwueze (8/10)

A decent performance from Samu again, the AC Milan winger connected brilliantly with Samuel Ajayi as the unleash mayhem in attack.

9. Moses Simon (8/10)

Unlike in last two games, Moses was in his usual element and as he recorded most successful dribbles in the game and provided the delivery which later turned an Own Goal.

10. Calvin Bassey (9/10)

Bassey came through with another top performance playing in the 3-4-3 formation of Coach Jose Peseiro.

Bassey was a beauty to behold with his ball distribution and nearly earned the team a penalty kick which was overlooked by the Referee.

11. Victor Osimhen (9/10)

Gave the much needed fight in the attack for the Super Eagles as his presence steadily kept opponents backline on their toes.
