5 Things Rohr Must Get Right If Nigeria Are To Beat CAR

The Nigeria Super Eagles quest for a place in Qatar 2022 World Cup suffered a huge blow as the team were condemned to a surprising and heart wrenching defeat in the hands of Central Africa Republic.

Little known Central Africa Republic caused an upset in the current CAF World Cup Qualifiers series as the team clipped the wings of Stars studded Super Eagles side right infront of their home fans.

Aftermath the shocking defeat, there has been mixed feelings amongst football enthusiasts, a section of the fans blamed the Super Eagles tactician for not being tactically sound whilst the other blamed the players for their poor attitude.

The Super Eagles will go toe to toe with the Central Africa Republic national team tomorrow in Douala, to mark the reverse fixture of the World Cup Qualifiers series.

Rohr and his Super Eagles team has an opportunity to redeem the countries image and these are five (5) key things Coach Gernot Rohr must do right if the team wishes to rewrite their wrong.

1. 4-4-2 Formation over 4-5-2
Gernot Rohr since been in charge of the Countries senior National team has failed to establish a ‘trademark’ pattern of play for the team.

The Franco-German coach changes formation at will, depending on the opponents and this has never favoured the team.

The 4-4-2 Diamond formation played against Cape Verde at home and away which saw the team claim maximum points has proven to be the best formation for the team irrespective of the Personnel’s on ground.

2. Overhaul The Midfield Options.
Leicester City Midfielder, Ndidi Wilfred and Watford city Midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo, presence were greatly missed in the first leg of the world cup qualifiers in Lagos as the trio of Joe Aribo, Frank Onyeka and Kelechi Iheanacho failed to detect the rythm of the game from the middle of the park.

Frank Onyeka lacked the physical presence to shield the backline from his DM position, little wonder the team were exposed to danger on numerous occasions in Lagos.

Joe Aribo arguably had his worst game in the colours of the National team as the two midfielders failed to establish a synergy which caused the team less number of shots on target.

Throwing in Malmo FF defensive midfielder, Innocent Bonke, in place of Frank Onyeka will help stabilize play for the team in the midfield of the park which would in return give Joe Aribo maximum freedom to rove and do what he knows how to do best.

3. Victor Osimhen x Paul Onuachu Pair
On arrival in Camp, Onuachu was left out from the team practice session before the game, this depicts that the reigning Belgian topflight league highest goal scorer is not in his best form.

A cheering news is that the gangling striker made the trip to Douala for the reverse fixture against Central Africa Republic and if this be the case, Gernot Rohr should endeavor to pair the marauding striker alongside Napels striker, Victor Osimhen.

Paul Onuachu height and frame will pose a big threat to the opponents which the team must capitalize on if they wish to turn around the table in Cameroon.

4. Calvin Bassey Over Jamilu Collins.
Jamilu Collins arguably had his worst game in the colours of the national team against Central Africa Republic on Thursday in Lagos.

Collins never contributed meaningful to the progression of the team either defensively or offensively, the Paderborn Player made the left wing ineffective althrough the game.

Jamilu’s constant back passes stylishly played out CSK Moscow dashing winger, Chidera Ejuke, out of the game as he wasn’t adequately fed with direct passes.

Gernot Rohr should take the bull by the horn and unleash new boy, Calvin Bassey, as he has more to offer from the left flank than Jamilu Collins.

5. Steady Deliveries
Gernot Rohr should endeavor to condition his wingers to always bring in deliveries once the approach the Opponents offensive third.

In the game in Lagos, Moses Simon and Ejuke were less of a threat to the opponents as they failed to deliver good crosses from the channels as to make good use of Victor Osimhen aerial prowess.

The game tomorrow is winnable if only the Super Eagles tactician is able to implement to the needful.
